yesterday was real cool. a whole bunch of people came over to megg's place for a barbecue, just to hang and spend time in good company. our friends "riddle the roar" played some music, along with joe, jay, and me. it was a good time, getting to meet up with friends, meet some new people. i even got to meet up with a friend from high school that i hadn't seen in a good while. alisha happened to be a friend of brittney's, and it was totally unexpected. crazy cool!
life just felt really gnarly right now. i was just thinking about how different things seem to have been away from point loma. it's like, when you're in a place, you're aware--conscious--of the fact that you're there and aware of the people who are there with you. now that i'm not there on the daily, i guess i've just become aware of different things. home life. my home church. my family. it's not a bad thing, either. though i do feel like i'm missing a piece of me, of something i love. i really miss being around everyone. there are still a lot of friends here, living in the area, and a lot of students living and working on campus, taking classes and i'm thankful to get to see them often. i think what i miss is simply what happens when we're all there in that place together. there's definitely something about that, about being together. "Let us not give up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but let us encourage one another—and all the more as you see the Day approaching" [Hebrews 10:25, NIV]. amen.
"we are one tonight." +

gospelfest at the fair
it was cool tonight. worship led by Israel & New Breed, along with Tonex, Eddie Baltrip & Fulfillment, and Jehsyn Lavelle. it was good to take part in worshiping God. and what makes it even better is when we can worship together among friends.
in between acts, i got to meet and talk a bit with this guy who was standing next to us. he was a student at biola, majoring in education. it was neat to hear about what he's done and where he's traveled. 21 different countries in about 10 years. real cool. he's also gotten to take part in missions work and encouraged me to do the same. i thought back to conversations i had with friends about missions, saying how it'd be cool to do that. i remember going on an eight-day trip for an orphanage in juarez, mexico and how impacting that was. maybe i should take part in one, again. however the Lord leads..
i used to think that missions work was always about 'building' something, making some kind of material contribution, giving money. i mean, the sharing of the Good News was in there somewhere, but i had that idea that progress and impacting people's lives had to be measured by physical, material gain. i'm not sure where that came from. maybe it's society and the idea that we got to have a lot of 'stuff.' but i've heard people talk-- people, students, friends --who've gone on these trips and shared their experiences, and may not have necessarily given them money or stuff, but gave their time. and essentially gave themselves. they gave love, and there's no price on that. irreplaceable and undeniable.

switchfoot at del mar
we got to see switchfoot at the fair again! it was a good show. my sister and jon went together, and we ran into a good number of familiar faces. so neat o .
right before the show, i got to run into bryce, an old friend from high school. he was talking about how he writes songs, at least one everyday. so crazy! he was inspired by jon foreman, and i remembered him saying something about that when he spoke at point loma's 'writer's symposeum.' bryce was like, "you get about 2 or 3 good ones in a week. then you sift through those and you're like 'ehh...,' and you realize that you probably got one out of the whole month." maybe i should try that. take those steps, yo!
israel houghton plays tomorrow. yes.

humphrey's and gary jules
so megg placed second in a singer/songwriter competition, but they liked so much that they asked her to play anyway :]. so ben, will, and i got a chance to join her on stage at humphrey's to open for gary jules, alongside 'rhythm and the method,' 'lindsay olsen,' 'future governor,' and 'jesse laMonaca.' i'm thankful for the privilege to play with these friends. it is a blessing. God is good. He deserves all the glory.
it was cool to see our friends come out tonight, too. carlo came, and it was good to hang again.
these are good days.
